About Bryan Jernigan
Bryan Jernigan's furniture is at once eye-catching and captivating to the imagination, with the mind of an engineer and sculptor readily apparent in his unique designs that push materials to their utter edge.
After four years studying architecture at Georgia's Southern Polytechnic State University, Bryan went on to earn a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Georgia. In 1997, his sculpture Bench Mark won first place at the Georgia Marble Festival.
His love of architecture and sculpture came together during the construction boom of the 2000s. Bryan carved out a distinctive niche for himself renovating historic homes in Atlanta, creating intimate spaces with a modern flow while saving and building upon the original details that make these older homes special.
In 2007, Bryan relocated his family to Asheville, NC, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, to pursue his dream of designing and making furniture.
As Bryan explains, "My background in sculpture and my love of architecture, along with a deep appreciation for intricate wood joinery, are the foundations of my designs. Tension and compression play an integral part in the engineering. I use wood indigenous to the North Carolina Mountains where my studio is located, and also locally reclaimed wood. So every table I produce is unique. I ask a lot of the material. Sometimes it breaks in the process, but you never find your edge unless you push to the extreme."
"I build each table by hand. While each concept tends to give birth to the next, I trust that every design stands on its own merits."
Bryan Jernigan's tables are made to order, in a limited series for each design.
